Here they are, the books we have gone crazy for this month!
When You Reach Me, Rebecca Stead
This is one of our book club books, and we are loving it! Today these four ran up to me after our book club time, yelling “Ms. Green this book is so good!!” They were so excited, and I am so excited that they are loving it just as much as I do. This is one of my absolute favorites, and so far it’s been a great way to jump into reading. It’s a charming little mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Crossover, Kwame Alexander
This book is all the rage in fifth grade. I ordered two copies from Amazon for our classroom library, and they were scooped up before I could even set them down on the new releases shelf. This book is excellently and creatively written in prose, and walks us through the story of Josh Bell, a middle school all star basketball player, and his twin brother Jordan Bell, as new hurdles are thrown into their lives. It’s a beautiful story of family and heart. The way it’s written makes it a super easy read, too. I finished it after two nights of light reading. I really loved it, and the kids do too!
The Screaming Staircase (Lockwood & Co), Jonathan Stroud
I haven’t opened this one up yet, but I ordered three copies for our classroom library at the request of several students. According to Enrique and Chase, it’s a thrilling mystery, and they haven’t been able to put it down.
In our book clubs, we are also reading A Wrinkle in Time and Ender’s Game. We’re still at the beginnings of these books, and working on our reading stamina in order to get fully invested in these stories. We have high hopes for what’s ahead!
Do you have any more book recommendations for our class? We’re all ears!
